Quilt of the Month Dec. Jan/Feb. March/April

Kerry Wettenhall

WAQA PRESIDENT

My quilting interest began a long time ago when my sister, who was heavily involved in quilting in the country, wanted to show me how to make a Double Irish Chain Quilt. At that stage, I had never seen a cutting mat or board, and had certainly never heard of a roller cutter.

Five years later, that quilt is still only in strips and my attempt to give it to my sister resulted in a mere half-hour instruction to complete two blocks and realize how the quilt went together. I haven't stopped since, and joined WAQA in 1997 after attending several lessons and finding a thirst for knowledge I couldn't satisfy. The thirst is slowly abating, though will always be around, and the company of quilters is wonderful. My husband and three daughters have taken a while to get used to quilting and its accumulations, though they do love the end product. Having an interest in art helps me to be creative with my quilts and one day I WILL make a masterpiece. Meanwhile...I'm practicing lots.
