Gloria Loughman

Gloria Loughman is well known for her magnificent landscape quilts depicting the essence of the scenic wonders of Australia. Her quilts incorporate a wide range of techniques from colour wash to appliquι fabric dyeing, printing and painting; whatever is needed for a particular effect.

Gloria lives in a country town in Northern Victoria called Kerang. She is a trained secondary school teacher. Her initiation into the world of patchwork occurred about 10 years ago when she was recovering from an unwelcome but necessary bout of chemotherapy --what began as therapy developed into a passion and Gloria dabbled in many areas of quilt making. In 1996 she began to make art quilts that reflected the Australian landscape and is challenged to reproduce, in fabric, the many images she has seen on her travels around Australia.

She is in great demand as a tutor both in Australia and overseas and her quilts have been featured in many publications including Australian Patchwork and Quilting, Quilting Down Under, Quilters Newsletter and NZ Quilter. Her quilts have also won numerous awards in Australia, USA, Europe and Japan. If you wish to learn a bit more and see photos of her work, please have a look at her website on www.glorialoughman.com

We are extremely fortunate to have Gloria available to teach workshops during the time of Quilt West in 2004. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
